Why is flatbed towing so common in SOLO District?
SOLO District is Appia Developments' four-tower community on 6.65 acres at the corner of Willingdon and Lougheed, beside Brentwood Town Centre station. The name stands for South of Lougheed. Stratus, Altus, Cirrus and Aerius sit above a large secured parkade, so nearly every flatbed call here starts below ground. It is one part of our wider flatbed service in Brentwood.
The building plan set out 1,968 resident stalls, 445 retail stalls and 530 office stalls across the four towers, according to bccondosandhomes. The parkade also has EV charging stations and car-wash bays. Plenty of EVs and AWD crossovers park here, and both should travel on a deck rather than on their own wheels. Our parkade towing guide explains how we bring them up.
Altus at 4485 Skyline Drive was called Burnaby's tallest building when work began, in Daily Hive's construction report. For towing, tall towers mean big parkades with long ramps. Entrance locations and height clearance are not published, so we plan to move the car up with dollies or a low unit and load it at street level. For a simple boost, start with roadside assistance in SOLO District.
Retail brings its own calls. Whole Foods Market, Burnaby's first, anchors more than 100,000 sq ft of shops at SOLO District, and those customers use the retail stalls below. A shopper's AWD car that will not restart, or a car nudged by another driver on the way out, gets the same treatment as a resident's: up the ramp, onto the deck, and off to the shop. If you are not sure what to do first, our Brentwood breakdown guide is a short read.
The building also has three dedicated Modo car-share vehicles, and if one of those has a problem, the car-share company is the first call. For your own vehicle, tell us the make and whether it is electric, and we will bring the right gear down. If the vehicle turns out to be heavier than a car deck can carry, we will point you to heavy duty towing in SOLO District instead.
SOLO District flatbed towing in brief
- Most calls start in the secured parkade under the four towers.
- Have your fob or a building contact ready so we can get through the gate.
- Useful addresses: 4485 Skyline Drive for Altus, 2008 Rosser Ave, or simply the tower name.
- EVs coming off the charging stations and AWD cars always ride on the deck.
- The price is fixed with you on the call, before the truck rolls.
What kinds of SOLO District cars do we load on a flatbed?
The mix under these towers leans new, electric and all-wheel drive.
EVs at the chargers
An EV that faults while plugged in, or will not wake after sitting, goes up the ramp on dollies and onto the deck.
AWD crossovers
Linked axles mean no wheels down. Front-wheel-drive cars may suit wheel lift towing in SOLO District instead.
Low cars
A lowered car that scrapes on parkade ramps loads at a gentle angle once it is outside.
Parkade bumps
Pillar strikes and stall scrapes can bend a wheel. We strap it at the tires and take it to your body shop.
Motorcycles
Bikes parked in the tower garage are walked out, then strapped upright with soft ties.
What do SOLO District residents ask about flatbed towing?
Can the flatbed come down into the SOLO parkade?
We do not plan on it. We move the car to the surface on Skyline Drive or Rosser Ave and load it there.
I park in the office or retail levels. Is it different?
Only for access. Office and retail stalls may have their own gate hours, so tell us who can let us in.
Where do you usually take cars from SOLO District?
To dealers and shops around Metro Vancouver. Hwy 1 is a few blocks away, which keeps most trips simple.
My car has a flat tire. Do I need a flatbed?
Not always. If the rim is fine, a spare change in the stall may be all it takes. If the wheel or suspension is bent, it goes on the deck.
Do you cover the mall towers across Willingdon too?
Yes. See flatbed towing at The Amazing Brentwood for its parkade entrances.
SOLO District flatbed towing: what to do and what to skip
A few small things make a parkade tow under the SOLO towers go smoothly.
Do
- Note the tower, level and stall number
- Put the car in neutral if it still powers on
- Set tow mode on an EV if the screen still works
- Take photos if another car hit yours in the garage
Skip
- Pushing an AWD car up the ramp yourself
- Letting anyone tow an EV with its drive wheels on the ground
- Leaving the car blocking a car-wash bay or a charger without telling the building
- Guessing the cost: ask us, or read our tow price guide
